Municipal officials from L’Isle-aux-Allumettes, Chichester, Sheenboro, Waltham, Mansfield-Pontefract, and the MRC Pontiac, along with Pontiac MNA André Fortin, met with representatives from Hydro-Québec to discuss the power outages that occurred in June.
Hydro-Québec presented the suspected causes of the outages: bad weather (storm cells), vegetation, and the temporary synchronization with the Quebec grid during this period.
The municipal representatives expressed concerns regarding several issues: the dissemination of incorrect and inadequate information about the duration of outages, the unsatisfactory response time to these outages, and the ongoing instability of the network in the Upper Pontiac area, especially when synchronized with the Quebec grid.
The discussion identified several areas for improvement, and possible solutions were reviewed.
A follow-up meeting to discuss Hydro-Québec’s progress has been scheduled for fall 2024.
