The Municipalities of Mansfield-et-Pontefract and the Village of Fort-Coulonge wish to inform residents that the latest hydrological forecasts indicate a rapid rise in water levels and flows along the main stretch of the Ottawa River. This increase is caused by recent rainfall combined with significant snowmelt from the unregulated portion of the watershed.
According to today’s published data:
- Lake Coulonge is expected to reach 107.5 m on Thursday, 107.90 m on Friday, and 108.30 m on Saturday.
- Between Pembroke and Carillon, minor flooding thresholds are expected to be exceeded in areas that are typically affected.
- Due to a high level of uncertainty in current forecasts, major flooding thresholds cannot be ruled out between Lake Coulonge and Masson/Cumberland over the coming week.
The ORRPB sets the major flooding threshold at 108.50 m. It is important to note that these terms are used to maintain consistent coordination with expert agencies. However, the municipalities consider that any level exceeding the river’s annual average constitutes, in practice, a major flood, due to the real and direct impacts on taxpayers’ properties, as well as on roads and municipal operations.
Coulonge River
The flow of the Coulonge River is also increasing:
- Near 400 m³/s expected in the coming days
- 338 m³/s at the moment
Roads Typically Flooded at the Forecasted Levels
Based on the projected water levels for the coming days, the following roads are typically affected:
- Thomas-Lefebvre Road at the Wharf
- Thomas-Lefebvre Road between civic numbers 270 and 278
- Esprit Road
- Léonard Road up to civic number 221
- Pearson Road
- Chemin de la Passe up to civic number 122
