But it was on January 1, 1868, that the municipality of Mansfield-et-Pontefract came into being, when the neighboring township of Pontefract, officially founded in 1863, was annexed.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-b8e0bc2 e-con-full e-flex e-con e-child\" data-id=\"b8e0bc2\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-3168fa1 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"3168fa1\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Historically, according to Jame White, Mansfield Township was named after Sir James Mansfield, then Solicitor General of Canada in 1780, who lived from 1733 to 1821, while others believe the name Mansfield was given to honor William Murray, the first Earl of Mansfield. The origin of Mansfield Township&#8217;s name remains a mystery.<\/p><p>The township of Pontefract, on the other hand, takes its name from a town in Yorkshire, England.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-f0bfcaf e-con-full e-flex e-con e-child\" data-id=\"f0bfcaf\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-1e4923b elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"1e4923b\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>The municipality of Mansfield-et-Pontefract is divided into a number of sectors, including Davidson, Saint-Camille, Bois Franc (which used to be in Pontefract township), the Amyotte section, Lac La Truite, Lac Jim, Lac Galarneau, Coulonge Falls and Grand Marais, to name but a few. Built in 1854 by lumber baron George Bryson, the house today serves as a repository of the region&#8217;s rich heritage, offering a glimpse into the municipality&#8217;s dynamic history and George Bryson&#8217;s significant contributions as its first mayor.
